Concomitant primary breast carcinoma and primary choroidal melanoma: a case report

چکیده
INTRODUCTION Choroidal melanoma and choroidal metastasis are distinct pathological entities with very different treatments and prognoses. They may be difficult to distinguish to the untrained observer. CASE PRESENTATION A case of concomitant choroidal melanoma in a woman with primary breast carcinoma is described. The choroidal lesion was thought initially to be a metastasis, and treated with external beam radiotherapy. The tumour did not regress but remained stable in size for a period of three years. Following referral to an ophthalmologist, the diagnosis was revised after re-evaluation of the clinical, ultrasonographic and angiographic findings. CONCLUSION Although metastases are the most common ocular tumour, a differential diagnosis of a concurrent primary ocular malignancy should always be considered, even in patients with known malignant disease. Thorough ophthalmic evaluation is important, as multiple primary malignancies may occur concomitantly. The prognostic and therapeutic implications of accurate diagnosis by an ophthalmologist are of profound significance to affected patients and their families.

Choroidal metastasis from carcinoma of breast detected on F18-FDG PET CT scan: A case report and review of literature
Intraocular choroidal metastasis is a very rare cause of blindness. Choroidal hemangioma and melanoma are other causes that may mimic the condition. Carcinoma of breast is the most common primary malignancy that accounts for choroidal metastasis in females and carcinoma of lung is the most common cause in males. Other primary neoplasms which can uncommonly metastasize to the choroid are testis,...
متن کاملPrimary Fibrosarcoma of Breast: A Case Report and Review of Literature
While carcinoma of breast is common condition, stromal sarcomas are rare tumors of breast, amongst which fibrosarcoma accounts for 16% of cases. Only a few case reports are available in the international literature. We report a case of fibrosarcoma of breast, which presented as an un-encapsulated mass in the right breast of a 60-year-old female. This case was diagnosed after exclusion of all po...
متن کاملPrimary Stromal Sarcoma of Breast: A Rare Entity
Primary soft tissue sarcomas of the breast constitute less than 5% of all soft tissue sarcomas and less than 1% of malignant breast cancers. The rarity of this tumor limits most studies to small retrospective case reviews and case reports. Primary breast sarcomas are locally aggressive tumors as evidenced by the high rate of local recurrence when excisional surgery is performed. A contemporary ...

Although gastrointestinal involvement by metastatic malignant melanoma is common but primary gastrointestinal (GI) melanoma has been reported in rare cases. In this study we report two cases of primary gastrointestinal malignant melanoma that one of them is a known case of neurofibromatosis type 1(NF1). Both cases showed no evidence of any lesions in skin and eye. Malignant melanoma of GI tract...
متن کاملMultiple Concomitant Primary CNS Tumors of Different Histology: Report of Two Cases
Two cases of multiple concomitant CNS tumors of different histologic types are presented. One was a case of neurofibromatosis type 2 (NF2) with 6 CNS tumors, and the other a case of 4 CNS tumors without any evidence of NF. To our knowledge, there is no report of concomitant occurrence of 6 CNS tumors in the medical literature. Neuroradiological and operative findings are illustrated and discu...
